Innovo Training and Development take to the airwaves!

As part of Carlow County Enterprise Board’s Enterprise Week, Director of Innovo Training and Development, Declan Byrne was interviewed on local radio station CKLR FM.

During the live interview Declan spoke on the importance of communication and more importantly effective communication for success in business.  Communication is not only speaking and listening, there are also many other facets to this skill including active listening and body language.  Declan commented “If I could give one piece of advice to people in business and people thinking of starting their own business, that would be to work on their elevator pitch.”  In business an elevator pitch is what you say in the first 30-60 seconds to capture a person’s attention and interest in your business, therefore it must be a clear and concise statement.

It is also equally important that when engaging in conversation with employees, colleagues and clients that we use the skills of active listening and body language effectively.  “It is amazing in the business world you notice that the people who are held in the highest regard as ‘good communicators’ are often the people who sit back and really listen to what is being said, not just what they think is being said” stated Declan.

Throughout the 10 minute interview Declan spoke about his experience of good and bad communicators in business.  “Being able to read and interpret body language plays a role in the communication process, but one of the most valuable rules I have learnt in business is that the personal touch is so important  - remember you can’t fax a handshake!”
